I have to admit, when I first saw the two little lines I was excited about a lot of things. One of the things I couldn't stop thinking about was how to start decorating a nursery! What colors should I use? What crib and bedding should I buy? Should I try to keep everything organic? The questions seemed endless. Somehow picking a color scheme kept coming back to me, choosing the perfect color can set the tone for the entire room. It was my favorite part!

We've hunted down and organized the top four colors trends for 2016. By no means do you have to decorate using any of these colors. These colors are meant to inspire and become a jumping off point for decorating that new nursery. Don't forget to look on Pinterest for awesome color themes and Project Nursery is also an excellent source for what's trending. We've also listed which Ollie & Olina Heirloom Quilt would look the best for that color pallet. Don't forget we now have nursery pillows to match!

One of the first trends for 2016 is a sophisticated pastel pallet.

Forget the timeless blush pink and light blue, try out modern colors like periwinkle, lilac, and pale green. Rose Quartz and Serenity (a slightly richer, more saturated shade of pale blue) were recently named the two Pantone Colors of the Year. The Ollie & Olina Heirloom quilt in Dawn will match any pastel nursery. Don't be afraid to keep the theme going with a vintage-inspired crib and adding a modern touch with whimsical wall decals.

Natural Wood Colors

There is something so warm and inviting about having natural wood in a baby's nursery. With so many accents, products, and materials on the market, the ideas are endless! You can decorate using wall art, wood panels on an accent wall, wood flooring, tile floor that looks like wood, and a dark finished wood crib and rocking chair are all great examples. Our Heirloom Quilt in Hello Bear Fog will be a beautiful addition to any woodland themed nursery. Try taking a subtle approach to wood in 2016. Think small scale or accent piece. Either way, you'll have lots of options to choose from when shopping.

 Simply White

Benjamin Moore has announced that their 2016 color of the year is ‘Simply White’. We know that white isn't always the color associated with a child's room, but we think it's still safe while it's a nursery, not yet a toddler's room. White is simple and beautiful. It can also be used to accentuate and frame your vibrant colors as you maybe change the room when baby gets older. White can be romantic, modern, trendy, simple, and crazy. It can be whatever you want it to be.

Winter Blues

You'll find these faded colors on the walls of European homes. These colors are serene and soothing and will keep your nursery in a calm state of mind (which is exactly what new moms need). Inspired by the vast oceans, these colors can also be combined with sea inspired ideas and coastal decor. Don't worry, a nautical theme hasn't made it's way out yet. Our Heirloom Quilt in grey leaves would accent any of these colors in the best way.

The journey of parenthood spans many memories – from the time we bring our children home from the hospital to when they start their own family. From their first steps to that walk down the aisle. From preschool to graduate school. Baby's nursery doesn't have to be perfect, it just has to be a loving place for you and baby to call home. It will be an ever-changing room so plan ahead knowing that the room will evolve with you and baby. It should be a joyous place so have fun picking colors and decorating.
